Mindfulness Based Psychotherapy
Find Your Way
Find Your Way…
Life is full of uncertainty and unpredictability. We can sometimes find ourselves feeling a bit lost, stuck, or maybe even hopeless. Perhaps you are engaging in patterns of behaviour you no longer wish to be doing. Or, maybe, you are going through something very difficult and you need some support to help you make sense of what is happening.
Psychotherapy offers a rare opportunity to be fully seen and heard. A private and safe space where you can show up in your vulnerability and discomfort, and be carefully listened to without judgement. It takes real courage to begin this journey, to even start thinking about why we feel and behave in the ways that we do. I really honour this strength within you and warmly welcome you here.
Hello,
I am Gemma and I’m a Mindfulness Based Core Process Psychotherapist in training. Currently a senior student of the Karuna Institute, I am studying for a masters level post graduate diploma and registered with the UKCP and ACPP professional awarding bodies.
I have led a varied and unconventional life so far. I’ve journeyed deep into my own personal history and explored some of life’s more profound and existential questions. My path led me to psychotherapy out of a genuine curiosity about my own suffering and the transformative path of healing. Drawing from my deeply lived experience, I am uniquely positioned to understand the difficulties involved with engaging in therapy. This perspective, along with my diverse set of skills, enriches my capacity to understand, attune and connect to the experience of others.
Grounded in my deep connection to the natural world, yoga and meditation, I embody both strength and softness, and guide others to rediscover the inherent wholeness that resides within each of us.
Core Process Psychotherapy
Core Process Psychotherapy asks us to turn inwards. We gently learn to face our feelings, emotions and thoughts, especially the more difficult and challenging ones. We do this by gradually and compassionately exploring what’s happening in the present moment by developing mindful awareness of the body and mental processes. It is here, in this unique relationship and safe setting, where many of our answers, intuitions and understandings can be found.
This type of inner exploration is an act of compassion and care. I understand that slowing down and listening to ourselves in this way may feel very unfamiliar at first, indeed is it not something that our culture encourages us do, however, this is a journey that we embark on together.
The purpose of psychotherapy isn’t to try to change ourselves but to transform our relationship to our current experience, embracing our truest selves without judgement. There are many reasons that might bring someone to therapy; you may feel that something just isn’t quite right, or, you may have a particular concern you would like to address. Some of the issues I work with include:
Working Together
Issues of self-esteem / confidence
Depression
Anxiety, stress & overwhelm
Traumatic experiences
Addiction issues
Issues with eating & body image
Issues around sexuality & gender
Relationship & attachment issues
Impact of illness
Loss, grief, bereavement
Issues of meaning & spirituality
Spiritual emergence
I work in a private and secluded therapy room in Babcary, Somerset. It is a ground floor room, accessible, with free private parking. Online sessions can also be arranged.
